Shock to all Spartacus-Fans: As it seems Starz will replace Andy Whitfield in the second season. Whitfield unfortunately suffers from a serious cancer disease for some time now. As it seems the poor guy doesn’t recover in the near future. Now Starz apparently made the decision not to wait or to bridge the gap in some way, no, the decided to choose an other spartacus-actor for season 2: Liam McIntyre. Now these are bad news for all fans. Not only because apparently Whitfield is still very sick. Now we need to get used to another leading face. Not an easy task in every tv series. But if the leading actor was as charismatic as Andy Whitfield it is even harder.
Even if the news are still not on the imdb.com, they news-message was announced on the Los Angeles Times. I read it first on wikipedia. I couldn’t find a proper announcement on the starz homepage, but searching propperly (site:starz.com) I found something in the community. (But a deeper look reveales: They just posting the LA Times Article *g*). Some other person in the community provides us a interview with Lima McIntyre.
But who is this new guy? A look at the imdb reveales: he hardly did anything known to some audiance other than the australian. If you have a closer look at the LA Times article picture (>>look>>) perhaps you will think the same as me: he does look a little bit like Andy Whitfield. He does indeed. In my opinion.
Bridging the gap: „The prequel miniseries, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, began production in August 2010 and consisted of six episodes. It premiered on January 21, 2011. It tells the story of Batiatus‘ struggle to revive the fortunes of his family’s ludus in the face of strong opposition from his father and from Capuan rivals. Gannicus is his champion gladiator.“
„In a Feb. 26, 2011 interview with Entertainment Weekly, DeKnight revealed that the second season was set to air „the end of January“ 2012. Additionally, he revealed that Lesley-Ann Brandt, the actress who portrayed the slave Naevia, would also not be able to return for season 2 due to the delay in production.“
